Education - Kyouke
〘Noun〙 (Also "kyoge". Meaning teaching, education and benefit)① A Buddhist term. To teach and guide all living beings and bestow blessings. A sermon. ※Hokke Gisho (early 7th century) vol. 1 "Shakyamuni Buddha was the first to be provisional , and the second to be a real person. He desired to clearly teach and teach the first ." ※Gikeiki (possibly mid-Muromachi period) vol. 6 "I thought I would go down to Kanto and receive the position of Hyoe no Suke." [Hannya Sutra - vol. 1]② A type of hymn recited in front of the Buddha during a memorial service. It is sung to the rhythm of chanting, and there are Chinese and Japanese styles. The Japanese style can be of two types: verse and prose. Kyo-ka -keukuwa [education]

〘 noun 〙 To teach and assimilate. Used especially in a moral sense. 〘名〙 (「きょうげ」とも。教導化益(けやく)の意)① 仏語。衆生を教え導いて恵みを与えること。説経。※法華義疏(7C前)一「釈迦仏門先権後実者、欲教化次第」※義経記(室町中か)六「関東へ下りて兵衛佐をけうけせばやと思ひつるに」 〔放光般若経‐一〕② 法要に際し仏前で朗唱される一種の賛歌。声明(しょうみょう)の節調をもって唱するもので、漢文体のものと和文体のものとがあり、和文体のものには韻文体、散文体の二種がある。今様また短歌の形式をとり、四句を基本として、その倍数の八句、一二句などの長文をなし、種類も多種にわたる。※教化之文章色々(1053‐58頃)「西塔王院懐空僧都教化」

きょう‐か ケウクヮ【教化】

〘名〙 教え同化すること。特に道徳的な意味で使われる。教育が科学的、合理的な内容を含むのに対して、これらを欠いたものとして対比して用いられることがある。※足利本論語抄(16C)子罕第九「人君の教化するは、天道利万物、如き也」※西洋事情(1866‐70)〈福沢諭吉〉二「近来は頻に魯西亜の国語を弘め寺院を建立して人を教化せり」 〔戦国策‐衛策・嗣君〕
