〘Noun〙 (Also "kyoge". Meaning teaching, education and benefit)① A Buddhist term. To teach and guide all living beings and bestow blessings. The Japanese style can be of two types: verse and prose. 〘名〙 (「きょうげ」とも。教導化益(けやく)の意)① 仏語。衆生を教え導いて恵みを与えること。説経。※法華義疏(7C前)一「釈迦仏門先レ権後レ実者、欲レ明二教化次第一」※義経記(室町中か)六「関東へ下りて兵衛佐をけうけせばやと思ひつるに」 〔放光般若経‐一〕② 法要に際し仏前で朗唱される一種の賛歌。声明(しょうみょう)の節調をもって唱するもので、漢文体のものと和文体のものとがあり、和文体のものには韻文体、散文体の二種がある。今様また短歌の形式をとり、四句を基本として、その倍数の八句、一二句などの長文をなし、種類も多種にわたる。※教化之文章色々(1053‐58頃)「西塔王院懐空僧都教化」
