Frankfurt Conference - Frankfurt Conference
During the Carolingian dynasty, many church councils were held in Frankfurt am Main, but the most famous was the one convened by Charlemagne in 794. It was held to decide the attitude towards the "adoption theory" advocated by Elipandus, Archbishop of Toledo in Spain, and Alcuin and others refuted it. Furthermore, when the Second Council of Nicaea (787) settled the issue by distinguishing between the veneration of icons and worship, the council rejected this interpretation as heretical.
