Zāyandeh Rūd (river)

Japanese: ザーヤンデ･ルード[川]（英語表記）Zāyandeh Rūd

A river in central Iran. It originates from Mount Zarde in the Zagros Mountains, flows through the Isfahan Plain, and empties into the Qabkhani Marsh. It is about 130 km long. 105 irrigation canals have been built, irrigating over 500 villages. It is the most important river in Iran for agricultural water supply, and this region is the most fertile in the Iranian Plateau. Attempts to draw water from the Qarun River flowing in the west have been unsuccessful since the Safavid dynasty (1501-1736), but in recent years a tunnel (total length 2,823 m) has been dug, and part of the water from the Qarun River is diverted into this river.

イラン中部の川。ザーグロス山脈のザルデ山に源を発し，イスファハーン平野を貫流し，ガーブハーニー沼に注ぐ。延長約130km。105本の用水路が引かれ，500強の村が灌漑されている。農業水利上イランで最も重要な川で，この地方はイラン高原で最も豊かな地である。西を流れるカールーン川から水を引く試みは，サファビー朝(1501‐1736)以降何度か試みられ失敗したが，近年トンネル(全長2823m)が掘削され，同川の水の一部がこの川に流されている。
