In Norse mythology, Aegir is the god of the sea. He lives in a magnificent mansion at the bottom of the ocean, and often invites the gods of Asgard to his grand banquets. In contrast to Aegir, who is said to calm the storm by smashing the sea with an oar, his wife Ran has a merciless personality, making the sea rough, grabbing ships with her hands and dragging them to the bottom, and catching shipwrecks and people in nets. However, it was believed that those who drowned were welcomed into her mansion and received hospitable hospitality as guests.
