Jeong Shintaku

Jeong Shintaku

A Chinese literary figure. His pen name was Xi Di. Born on December 19th in Yongjia, Zhejiang Province. In 1917, he entered the Beijing Railway Management School. While there, he founded the New Society and other publications, and became devoted to socialism. In 1921, he played a central role in the formation of the Literature Research Society, and was the chief editor of the society's organ, Literature Weekly (later Literature Weekly). From 1923 to 1931, he succeeded Mao Dun as chief editor of Novel Monthly. After that, while teaching at Yenching University and other institutions, he edited Literature and other publications in 1934, and made a great contribution to introducing many writers to the world. During the Anti-Japanese War, he organized the Resurrection Society with Xu Guangping and others. After liberation, he held important positions such as vice director of the Culture Department and director of the Writers Association, but died in an airplane accident on October 17th, 1958. His major works include "Arrest of the Fire-Breaker" (1934), a collection of short stories based on Greek mythology, "Outline of Literature" (1929), "Collection of Essays on Chinese Literature" (1934), and many others. "Collection of Writings by Zheng Zhenduo" (1959) was published.

中国の文学者。筆名は西諦など。12月19日、浙江(せっこう)省永嘉生まれ。1917年北京(ペキン)鉄路管理学校入学。在学中『新社会』等を創刊、社会主義に傾倒した。21年文学研究会結成に際し中心的役割を果たし、同会機関紙『文学』旬刊(のち『文学週報』)の主編を担当。23年より31年まで茅盾(ぼうじゅん)の後を継いで『小説月報』の主編を務めた。その後、燕京(えんきょう)大学ほかで教鞭(きょうべん)をとるかたわら、34年『文学』などを編集、数多くの作家を世に出した功績は大きい。抗日戦争中は許広平らと復社を組織。解放後は、文化部副部長、作家協会理事などの要職にあったが、58年10月17日飛行機事故で死亡。主著は、ギリシア神話に題材を得た短編小説集『取火者の逮捕』(1934)ほか、『文学大綱』(1929)、『中国文学論集』(1934)など多数。『鄭振鐸文集』(1959)が出版されている。
