Mr. Ooka

Japanese: 大岡氏 - おおおかうじ

A feudal lord in the early modern period. It is said that the family originated when a branch of the regent and chancellor Kujo Norizane moved to Ookamura in Mikawa Province and adopted the place name as their surname. During Tadakatsu's time, the family served two generations of Matsudaira Kiyoyasu and Hirotada, the ancestors of the Tokugawa clan, and his son Tadamasa also served Ieyasu and achieved military success. The family split into three lines, Tadayuki, Tadayo, and Tadayoshi, and Tadayoshi's eldest son Tadaaki's lineage led to Tadasuke, who joined the Tadayo family and was awarded a stipend of 10,000 koku, founding the Nishi Ohira Ooka family, and Tadamitsu, from the lineage of Tadayoshi's youngest son Tadafusa, became a chamberlain and was awarded 20,000 koku, founding the Iwatsuki Ooka family.

近世大名。摂政関白九条教実の庶流が，三河国大岡村に移り，地名を姓としたことより始まるといわれる。忠勝のとき，徳川氏の祖，松平清康･広忠の2代に仕え，その子忠政も家康に仕えて軍功をたてる。その子忠行，忠世，忠吉の3系に分かれるが，忠吉の長男忠章の系統から忠世家に入った忠相が万石に列せられて西大平大岡家をおこし，同じく忠吉の末子忠房の系統から忠光がでて，側用人となり2万石をもらって岩槻大岡家をおこした。
