Fuji Taiko, the 100th Drum in the House

…Awashima Keizu Yomeiri Hinagata (Awashima Wedding Hinagata) by Takeda Izumo, performed at the Takemotoza in April 1849 (Kan'en 2), is a revised version. Matsukanshi's Uchi Hyakuban Fuji Taiko (The 100th Fuji Drum) in October 1883 (Tenmei 3) was a rare first performance at the Hizenza in Edo. In Kabuki, old works include Koizo Me Sumida-gawa (Love-dyed Sumida River) by Horikoshi Souji at the Edo Ichimura-za in March 1758 (Horeki 8) and Keisei Kataokayama (Courtesy of the Courtesan Kataokayama) by Nakamura Jusuke at the Nakamura-za in July 1773 (An'ei 2). In Kamigata, the definitive work is Katakiuchi Takane no Taiko (Revenge of the Takane Drum) by Nagakawa Shimesuke at the Osaka Kado no Shibai in August 1808 (Bunka 5). Several other works have appeared since then, but are rarely performed today.

…49年(寛延2)4月竹本座の竹田出雲作《粟島譜嫁入雛形（あわしまけいずよめいりひながた）》はその改訂版。83年(天明3)10月の松貫四（まつかんし）作《内（うち）百番富士太鼓》は珍しく江戸の肥前座初演である。歌舞伎では1758年(宝暦8)3月江戸市村座の壕越二三治（ほりこしにそうじ）作《恋染隅田川（こいぞめすみだがわ）》や，73年(安永2)7月中村座の中村重助作《傾城片岡山（けいせいかたおかやま）》などが古く，上方では1808年(文化5)8月大坂角の芝居の奈河七五三助（ながわしめすけ）作《復讐高根鼓（かたきうちたかねのたいこ）》が決定版的な作品として知られ，その後もいくつかの作品が登場したが，現在はほとんど上演されない。…
