A hormone secreted from the anterior pituitary gland, it binds to membrane receptors on thyroid follicular cells and promotes thyroid function. It is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of approximately 28,000. It regulates the thyroid gland and thyroid hormones, and if this balance is disturbed, normal thyroid function will not be maintained.
