Japanese: さくら人形 - さくらにんぎょう

A doll that has been Japanized using French doll-making techniques. Also known as a new Japanese doll. It was created using techniques introduced from France in the early Showa period. It is characterized by its cloth mask, and the arms, legs, and torso are also made of cloth, and the hair is made of vine thread, giving it the softness unique to cloth. フランス人形の製作技法を使って日本化した人形。新日本人形ともいう。昭和初期フランスから伝えられた手法を用いて生まれた。布製のマスクを使用しているのが特色で，手足，胴なども布製，毛髪にはすが糸を用いて布特有の柔らかみをもっている。歌舞伎や風俗に取題したものが多く，婦人の手芸として人気がある。【斎藤良輔】
