Also known as necklaces. Necklaces have been used for a long time, and are said to have been worn by Paleolithic people discovered in the Grimaldi Caves in Italy. In ancient times, as today, both men and women used them as accessories, and in Japan, necklaces made from bones, horns, and beads have been found in ruins from the Jomon period, and they became increasingly popular during the Kofun period. In the West, necklaces are famous, such as those worn by the seated statues of the Egyptian couple Rahotep and Nefert from the 4th Dynasty, and those from Mesopotamia.

ネックレスとも。首飾の使用は古く，イタリアのグリマルディ洞窟で発見された旧石器時代人もつけていたとされる。古代では現在と同様に男女とも装身具として用い，日本では骨角や玉でつくったものが縄文(じょうもん)時代の遺跡から発見され，古墳時代にはますます盛んになった。西洋でもエジプト第４王朝のラーホテプとネフェルト夫妻の座像についているものや，メソポタミアのものが著名。
