1896‐1952 British female author. Her real name is Elizabeth MacKintosh. She is famous for her series of detective novels, such as The Franchise Case (1948) and The Daughter of Time (1951), which feature Inspector Grant of the Metropolitan Police as the protagonist. "The Daughter of Time" means "the truth," and in this work, the hospitalized inspector deduces truths from his sickbed to prove the innocence of Richard III, who was generally believed (even by Shakespeare) to have been an evil king who had the heir to the throne assassinated in the Tower of London.
