Onneto

Japanese: オンネトー

This lake is located in Ashoro Town, Ashoro County, Tokachi Subprefecture, Hokkaido. It has a circumference of about 4km. It is located at the western foot of Mt. Meakan in Akan National Park, and its name means "parent's swamp" in Ainu. The water is acidic, and is inhabited by Siberian salamanders and crayfish. The tranquil lake reflects Meakan on its murky blue surface, and there is a colony of rhododendrons on the lakeshore. The saltwater lake of the same name at the base of the Nemuro Peninsula is called Onne Numa, and is formed by a drowned valley almost completely enclosed by a sand spit, and is connected to Nemuro Bay by a 500m-wide waterway. 北海道十勝支庁足寄（あしよろ）郡足寄町にある湖。周囲約4km。阿寒国立公園内，雌阿寒岳の西麓に位置し，アイヌ語で〈親の沼〉の意をもつ。水質は酸性で，エゾサンショウウオ，ザリガニが生息する。青くすんだ湖面に雌阿寒を映す静寂な湖水で，湖畔にシャクナゲの群落がある。根室半島基部にある同名の塩水湖は温根沼の文字をあて，これはおぼれ谷を砂嘴（さし）がほぼ閉じたもので，幅500mの水路で根室湾に通じている。【岡本次郎】
