The name of the railway line of the Shikoku Railway Company. It consists of the section between Takamatsu (Kagawa Prefecture) - Matsuyama (Ehime Prefecture) - Uwajima (Ehime Prefecture) (297.6 km), as well as the sections between Mukaibara and Uchiko in Ehime Prefecture (23.5 km) and Iyo-Ozu and Niiya (5.9 km). It is a main railway line that runs through the northern coast of Shikoku (the Seto Inland Sea coast) and the western coast (the Uwa Sea coast), connecting important cities on the northern coast of Shikoku such as the Sanuki Plain, Niihama Plain, Imabari Plain, and Matsuyama Plain. The line began in 1889 (Meiji 22) when the Sanuki Railway opened the Marugame - Tadotsu - Kotohira section, then in 1897 the track was extended east to Takamatsu, and after merging with the Sanyo Railway, it was nationalized in 1906 (Meiji 39) and was named the Sanuki Line when the line name was established in 1909. From 1913 (Taisho 2), the track was gradually extended west from Tadotsu, eventually reaching Matsuyama in 1927 (Showa 2), Iyo-Ozu in 1935, and Uwajima in 1945, completing the current line. During this time, the line was renamed the Sanyo Line (1923) and the Yosan Main Line (1933), and the section that opened as part of this line, from Tadotsu through Kotohira to Awa-Ikeda, was separated in 1935 and incorporated into the Dosan Main Line (now the Dosan Line). In addition, the Iyo-Nagahama-Iyo-Ozu section was originally opened by Ehime Railway in 1918 (gauge 762 mm), but was nationalized in 1935 and rebuilt to 1067 mm. The section south of Iyo City was built on rugged terrain with mountains approaching the coast, resulting in a poor alignment with a series of sharp curves and steep gradients. In 1986, a new route over the Nakayama Pass was opened between Mukaibara and Iyo-Ozu, and major trains began to run on the new line, while the old line along the coast and the Hiji River was used only by local trains (5.3 km of the new line between Uchiko and Shintani is still called the Uchiko Line, as it was reconstructed from the Uchiko Line). In 1987, following the privatization of the Japanese National Railways, the line became part of the Shikoku Railway Company, and in 1988 it was renamed the Yosan Line. In addition, the Great Seto Bridge (for both road and rail) linking Honshu and Shikoku was opened in 1988, and the track was connected to the Honshi-Bisan Line at Utazu Station (new station), allowing direct trains from the Okayama area to run onto the Yosan Line. The first electrified sections in Shikoku were the Takamatsu-Sakaiide, Tadotsu-Kanonji, and Tadotsu-Kotohira sections on the Dosan Line in March 1987, and the Sakaide-Tadotsu section was electrified in October of the same year. 四国旅客鉄道の線路名称。高松(香川県)―松山(愛媛県)―宇和島(うわじま)(愛媛県)間(297.6キロメートル)、および愛媛県の向井原(むかいばら)―内子(うちこ)間(23.5キロメートル)、伊予大洲(いよおおず)―新谷(にいや)間(5.9キロメートル)よりなる。四国の北岸(瀬戸内海沿岸)と西岸(宇和海沿岸)を縦貫する幹線鉄道で、讃岐(さぬき)平野、新居浜(にいはま)平野、今治(いまばり)平野、松山平野などの四国北岸の重要都市を結ぶ。1889年(明治22)に讃岐鉄道によって開業した丸亀―多度津(たどつ)―琴平(ことひら)間に始まり、1897年に高松に線路を東進させ、山陽鉄道との合併を経て、1906年(明治39)国有化され、1909年の線路名称の制定によって讃岐線と称された。1913年(大正2)以降、多度津より線路を西にすこしずつ延長し、1927年(昭和2)松山、1935年伊予大洲、1945年宇和島まで開通して現在の路線を全通させた。この間に讃予(さんよ)線(1923)、予讃本線(1933)と線路名称を改め、この線の一部として開業した多度津より琴平を経て阿波池田(あわいけだ)に至る区間を1935年に分離して土讃(どさん)本線(現、土讃線)に編入している。また伊予長浜―伊予大洲間は愛媛鉄道が開業(1918)した線(軌間762ミリメートル)を1935年国有化して1067ミリメートル軌間に改築したものであった。伊予市以南の区間は山地が海岸に迫る険峻(けんしゅん)な地形に線路を建設したため、急曲線と急勾配(こうばい)の連続する劣悪な線形となっている。1986年(昭和61)、向井原―伊予大洲間で中山峠を越える新しいルートの線路が開業し、主要列車は新線を経由して運転されるようになって、海岸と肱(ひじ)川沿いの旧線はローカル列車のみの運転となった(新線中、内子―新谷間の5.3キロメートルは、内子線の路線を改築したために現在も内子線と称する)。1987年、日本国有鉄道の分割民営化に伴い、四国旅客鉄道に所属し、1988年予讃線と改称。また、本州と四国を結ぶ瀬戸大橋(道路・鉄道併用)が1988年開通し、宇多津(うたづ)駅(新駅)で本四備讃線と線路がつながり、岡山方面から直通列車が予讃線に乗り入れた。四国で最初に電化区間となったのは、1987年3月高松―坂出(さかいで)間、多度津―観音寺(かんおんじ)間、土讃線多度津―琴平間で、同年10月坂出―多度津間も電化された。その後も電化区間は延伸され、1993年までに観音寺―伊予市間の電化が行われた。高松―多度津間のみ複線である。 [青木栄一・青木 亮] 出典 小学館 日本大百科全書(ニッポニカ)日本大百科全書(ニッポニカ)について 情報 | 凡例 |
