Medical Finance Corporation

Japanese: 医療金融公庫 - いりょうきんゆうこうこ
Medical Finance Corporation

A government financial institution established in July 1960 (Showa 35) with full government investment. In 1985, it merged with the Social Welfare Services Promotion Association to become the Social Welfare and Medical Services Corporation (now the Welfare and Medical Agency, an Independent Administrative Institution). It was established with the aim of "contributing to the proper spread and improvement of medical care sufficient to ensure the healthy lives of the people, by providing long-term, low-interest funds necessary for the establishment and improvement of the functions of private hospitals, clinics, etc., which are difficult for general financial institutions to provide." The loans were for funds necessary for the establishment, maintenance, or operation of facilities by medical corporations that run hospitals, etc., and most of the loans were made through banks with which the company had contracted services.
