...Dressing tables, which combine a mirror and a table, appeared in France in the late 17th century, and in the 18th century, a vanity table called a poudreuse (poudre means powder) was popular among upper-class ladies. In England in the late 18th century, a men's vanity table called a Beau Brummell, which had a vanity mirror, a candlestick, a drawer, and a shelf, also appeared and became popular during the reign of George IV. Full-length mirrors appeared in France in the late 17th century, but they did not become popular in other European countries until the late 18th century.
