A representative geographical book of the Edo period. It is a revised and expanded version of the Aizu Fudoki by Hoshina Masayuki, founder of the Aizu clan. Its compilation began in 1803 (Kyowa 3) and was completed in 1809 (Bunka 6). It consists of 120 volumes in total. It is divided into 16 sections, such as borders, mountains and rivers, wilderness, souvenirs, barriers, water resources, county offices, storehouses, shrines, and temples, and the first volume contains a preface by Matsudaira Katahiro, the clan lord. Many of the ancient documents and epigraphic inscriptions included in this book no longer exist, making this book of great academic value. Furthermore, many village documents from within the Aizu domain, such as the Chishisho Kakiagecho and Otazune-ni Tsukishojocho, remain. It is also included in the Dai Nihon Chishi Taikei and Fukushima Ken Shiryo Shusei. [Hiroshi Honda] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
