Kuril-Kamchatka Trench - Chishima-Kamchatka-Kaikou (English name) Kuril-Kamchatka Trench

Japanese: 千島･カムチャツカ海溝 - ちしまカムチャツカかいこう（英語表記）Kuril‐Kamchatska Trench

A trench that runs parallel to the Kuril Islands from where the eastern slope of the Kamchatka Peninsula meets the Commander Islands at the western end of the Aleut Islands to the Erimo Seamount off the coast of Cape Erimo in Hokkaido. The depth of the trench axis tends to increase toward the southwest. The total length is about 2,200 km. The deepest point was reported to be 10,542 m south of Urup Island by the Beechaj, but the results of further investigations have not been confirmed. Seismic activity along the trench is extremely active, and a deep earthquake plane with a maximum dip of 45 degrees can be clearly traced to a depth of 600 km.

カムチャツカ半島の東側斜面がアレウト列島西端のコマンドル諸島と接する付近から北海道襟裳（えりも）岬沖の襟裳海山まで，千島列島に平行に連なる海溝。海溝軸の深さは南西ほど深くなる傾向がある。全長は約2200kmである。最深部はウルップ島南方に1万0542mがビーチャジ号により報告されているが，再調査の結果は未確認である。海溝沿いの地震活動はきわめて活発で，最大傾斜45度の深発地震面が深さ600kmまで明瞭にたどれる。
