Inside the system, functions are differentiated into a "core" region dominated by free wage labor, a "periphery" historically centered on some kind of "forced" labor, and a "semi-periphery" in between. ...

Modern capitalism is sometimes called modern capitalism to distinguish it from ancient and medieval capitalism, but when people generally say capitalism, they are referring to this modern capitalism.
