The gorge of the Uji River from Tonohata in the south of Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture to Amagase Dam in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture. The upper reaches of the river, whose landscape changed dramatically with the completion of Amagase Dam in 1964, are called the New Uji River Line. This scenic spot, with steep gorges on both sides due to the preceding valley, belongs to Lake Biwa Quasi-National Park.
