Japanese: ツノザメ(角鮫) - ツノザメ

A general term for marine fish belonging to the Squalus genus of the Squalidae family in the Squalini order. The name "squalus" comes from the thick spines on the leading edge of the dorsal fin. In Kyushu, it is called kennooso or kenbuka. Its English name is spiny dogfish, emphasizing the presence of the spines. There are five species of dogfish in the waters near Japan. Of these, the spiny dogfish S. acanthias has the widest distribution, living in temperate to polar zones around the world. In the waters near Japan, it is found north of Choshi on the Pacific coast and north of Sanin on the Sea of Japan side.

ツノザメ目ツノザメ科ツノザメ属Squalusに属する海産魚の総称。ツノザメの名は背びれの前縁に太いとげがあることに由来する。九州ではケンノオソ，ケンブカなどという。英名はspiny dogfishでとげの存在を強調している。日本近海には5種のツノザメ類がいる。　なかでもアブラツノザメS.acanthiasは全世界の温帯から寒帯にかけて生息し，もっとも分布域が広い。日本近海では太平洋岸は銚子以北，日本海側は山陰以北に分布する。
