1872‐1938 German theologian. He was active as a Protestant pastor in Nuremberg and Berlin. In 1913, while in Nuremberg, he heard a lecture by R. Steiner and was impressed by the grand anthroposophical idea that the interpretations of the four Gospels that had been made up until that point should be unified under the lost "Fifth Gospel." In 1916, he joined the anthroposophical movement. In 1922, he founded the religious organization "Christengemeinschaft" (Christian Community), which aimed to combine Christianity and anthroposophy, and he became its supreme leader and launched a new Christian reform movement.
