This refers to metal parts used in architecture other than those used for structural materials, roof covering materials, plumbing equipment, etc. Nails, hinges, and handles are typical examples. The use of architectural hardware dates back to ancient times, with examples of copper furniture hardware being used as early as 5000 BC in Egypt; bronze was used as rod material inside the pyramids around 4000 BC, and lead had been used since around 3000 BC.
