Yukiza - Yukiza

Japanese: 結城座 - ゆうきざ

A theater company that inherits the tradition of string puppetry from the Edo period. "Yukiza" was the name of a puppet theater run by successive Yuki Magosaburōs, but the 9th Magosaburō revived the troupe in 1900 and gained popularity by reforming the traditional string puppetry. Later, the 10th and 11th Magosaburōs created new and avant-garde works in addition to the classics of Joruri, pioneering a unique field in which puppets and actors performed together under the direction of Fukuda Yoshiyuki and Sato Makoto. Representative works include "Shojo Kamen" by Kara Juro, "Ohana Yume Jigoku" by Fukuda Yoshiyuki, and "Macbeth". They also perform overseas frequently.

江戸時代の糸操り人形芝居の伝統を継承する劇団。「結城座」は，代々の結城孫三郎を座元とする人形芝居の劇場名であったが，9世孫三郎が 1900年に一座を復興，従来の糸操りを改革して人気を得た。その後 10，11世孫三郎らが，浄瑠璃による古典と並んで新作や前衛的作品も手がけ，福田善之，佐藤信らの演出で人形と俳優が共演する独自の領域を開拓した。代表作は唐十郎作『少女仮面』，福田善之作『お花ゆめ地獄』，『マクベス』など。海外公演も多い。
