He was called Yashiro, and also had pseudonyms such as Keimeisha and Akatsukiharuo. He was the fourth son of the third-generation head of the prestigious Izumiya family, which operated a soy sauce business in Osaka. He was born as an illegitimate child and was entrusted to the second-generation head of the branch family, Izumiya Heihachi. While running a souvenir shop called Shika no Ie and a salon-like tea shop called Mikariya, he also wrote and illustrated reading books such as Iroha Soshi (1823) and Onna Kumasaka Oboroya Soshi (1825), as well as enlightening books, miscellaneous books, famous place illustrations, and historical research essays, making him the most popular comic writer in the Osaka publishing world at the end of the Edo period. The fifth-generation head of the branch family, Kimura Heihachi, and his eldest son Toru, were involved in the establishment of the Asahi Shimbun newspaper.
