Tsukuba collection - Tsukubashu

A collection of quasi-imperial linked poetry from the Northern and Southern Courts period. 20 volumes. Edited by Nijō Yoshimoto with the assistance of Kyūsei. It has a preface dated March 1356, but was completed between the winter of that year and the spring of the following year. The works included range from the chanting of Yamato Takeru no Mikoto and Hitomoserumono, which appears in the Nihon Shoki, through the Nara, Heian and Kamakura periods to the present day, and include a total of 2,190 verses, including attached verses, hokku verses and a small number of miscellaneous verses. The short linked poems from the Heian and Kamakura periods are included in their original form, while the best parts of long linked poems such as chain linked poems, 100-verse linked poems, 1,000-verse linked poems, and 10,000-verse linked poems are included as two or four lines, with three or four lines in each. There are approximately 450 known authors, and those who included more than 30 lines include Kyukyu, Son'in, Yoshimoto, Doyo, Takauji, Tameie, and Zen'a. The contemporary works that support the literary quality of the collection aim for mysterious beauty, but also include haiku-like works, and overall have a lively and dynamic side. This is a monumental collection of works that shows the arrival of the age of linked poems.

南北朝時代の准勅撰連歌(ちょくせんれんが)集。20巻。二条良基(よしもと)が救済(きゅうせい)の協力を得て編集。文和(ぶんな)5年（1356）3月付けの序文を有するが、完成したのはその年の冬から翌年の春にかけての間のことである。所収の作品は、『日本書紀』所載の日本武尊(やまとたけるのみこと)と秉燭者(ひともせるもの)との唱和をはじめ、奈良朝、平安朝、鎌倉の各時代を経て当代に及び、種類は、付句(つけく)と発句(ほっく)のほか、少数の雑句をあわせて、総句数2190句である。作品の採り方は、平安朝および鎌倉期の短連歌はそのままの形でとり、鎖(くさり)連歌、百韻、千句、一万句などの長連歌は、そのうちの優れた部分を二句、付句として採用し、まま三句、四句続きで収めてある。作者は名の明らかな者が約450名で、30句以上の入集(にっしゅう)者は、救済、尊胤(そんいん)、良基、道誉(どうよ)、尊氏(たかうじ)、為家、善阿(ぜんな)らである。文芸性の支えをなしている当代の作品は、幽玄美を指向しながら、俳諧(はいかい)的な作品をも含み、全体的に生き生きとして躍動的な一面を有する。連歌の時代の到来を示す記念碑的な作品集である。
