Their base was in Kunashiri, eastern Ezo. In 1774 (An'ei 3), they attacked a ship led by Hidaya Kyubei, forcing a temporary halt to trade with the Matsumae Domain, but later made peace with the Domain. In 1789 (Kansei 1), during an Ainu uprising in Kunashiri and Menashi, they persuaded the Ainu to put an end to the situation, and were praised by the Domain for their efforts.
