Tsavo National Park - Tsavo National Park

This national park is located in eastern Kenya, halfway between Nairobi and Mombasa. It was established in 1948. A railway and road run through the park, dividing it into east and west, but the combined area of ​​the two is 20,782 square kilometers, larger than Shikoku in Japan and the largest in Kenya. The vegetation is mainly acacia savanna and semi-desert, but there is also mountain forest and sparse woodland. There are 95 species of mammals, including large animals such as black rhinos, buffalo, and elands, and the main attraction is the large herds of elephants. There is also a rich variety of birds, numbering 517 species. Accommodation facilities such as Kilaguni Lodge are also available.

ケニア東部、ナイロビとモンバサの中間に広がる国立公園。1948年制定。公園内を鉄道と道路が走り東西に分かれるが、両者をあわせた面積は2万0782平方キロメートルで、日本の四国よりも広くケニアでも最大である。植生はおもにアカシアのサバンナと半砂漠であるが、山地林や疎林も混在する。哺乳(ほにゅう)類はクロサイ、バッファロー、イランドの大形動物など95種で、呼び物はゾウの大群。鳥類も豊富で517種に及ぶ。キラグニ・ロッジなどの宿泊施設も整備されている。
