Katsumata clan - Katsumatauji

Japanese:
Katsumata clan - Katsumatauji
Also written as Katsuta clan. They are said to be the Kudo clan of the Southern Fujiwara clan, but there is also a theory that they are descendants of Taira no Yoshifumi of the Kanmu Heishi clan. They originated from Katsuta, Haibara County, Totomi Province (presently Haibara Town, Haibara County, Shizuoka Prefecture. The area of Katsuta, Katsuma, Katsumata, etc. remaining along the Katsumata River). They are thought to have been retainers of the Minamoto clan for many generations, and the name "Katsuta in Totomi Province" appears as one who followed Minamoto no Yoshitomo at the time of the Hogen Rebellion (1156). They were ranked as vassals under the Kamakura shogunate, and in 1186 (Bun'ei 2), Katsuta Saburo (first named Katsuta Heizo) was appointed Genba no Suke.
