Precipitation - chinden (English spelling)

This is the phenomenon in which solid particles in a liquid settle to the bottom. Formerly written as "sedimentation." Solids that settle to the bottom of a liquid are called sediments, or simply sediments. Sediments can also include things that are suspended in water. "Sediment" means "stagnant" or "sediment," and when plant roots and stems are crushed and suspended in water, the sediment that settles out of the liquid after removing the fiber is starch.

Precipitation is often used for the separation and quantification of substances, and the hydrogen sulfide method is a very clever way of generating precipitation. It is used in most gravimetric analyses, some volumetric analyses (precipitation titration), and microscopic analyses. There are different methods for generating precipitation depending on the purpose, and homogeneous precipitation is one of them.

液体の中に存在している固体の粒子が液の底に沈積する現象。以前は「沈澱」と書いた。液底に沈積した固体は沈殿物、あるいは単に沈殿とよぶ。懸濁しているものまでを含めて沈殿ということもある。「澱」は「よどみ」とか「おり」という意味であり、植物の根や茎などを砕いて水に懸濁させ、繊維質を除いた液から沈殿した「おり」がデンプン（澱粉）である。

　物質の分離や定量にはよく沈殿の生成が利用され、硫化水素法による沈殿の生成などは実に巧みな活用を行っている。重量分析のほとんどや容量分析の一部（沈殿滴定）、あるいは鏡検分析などに沈殿生成が利用されている。沈殿の生成には目的によって手法があるが、均一沈殿などもその一つである。
