Geography Education - Chirikyoiku

Japanese: 地理教育 - ちりきょういく
Geography Education - Chirikyoiku
The goal of geography is to develop the ability to adapt to the natural and social environment and to grow as a person within it. The focus is on understanding the relationship between natural conditions such as topography and climate and the human life that unfolds there, as well as learning about one's hometown, country, and other countries.
[history]
In the early Meiji period, with the rapid changes occurring both at home and abroad, there was a thirst for knowledge about the world. Enlightenment books such as Fukuzawa Yukichi's "Conditions in the West" and "World Countries" were widely read and played a part in geography education, but geography classes in schools also played a major role.
