…An animal phylum within the invertebrates. It is a group of lower bilaterally symmetrical animals excluding the phyla Platymorpha, Nematoda, and Cynomorpha, and includes seven classes: Rotifera, Nematoda, Gastrotrichum, Nematoda, Kinorhyncha, Priapulida, and Acanthocephala. However, because there are many unknowns about the relationships between these classes, and because there are significant differences in characteristics such as the cleavage pattern of the eggs, these classes are sometimes treated as independent phyla, and sometimes only Acanthocephala are treated as a single animal phylum, and the remaining six classes are lumped together as Capsularia.
