Chiriguano (English spelling)

Japanese: チリグアノ（英語表記）Chiriguano

A Guarani slash-and-burn agricultural people who live from the eastern slope of the Andes in Bolivia to the lowlands of Paraguay. The population is unknown. They are thought to have acquired their farming techniques from the Andean highlands, and their main crops are corn, pumpkins, beans, and non-toxic manioc. In addition to their farming techniques, they share many elements in their material culture, such as textiles and pottery, and in their mythology, with the Andean highland civilizations. They formed villages made up of several patrilineal lineage groups, and were led by chiefs who possessed qualities such as bravery, eloquence, and magical abilities.

ボリビアのアンデス東斜面からパラグアイ低地にかけて住むグアラニー系の焼畑農耕民。人口は不明。農耕技術はアンデス高地から獲得したと思われ，主たる作物はトウモロコシ，カボチャ，マメ，無毒マニオクなどである。農耕技術のほかにも，織物，土器などの物質文化，神話などにもアンデス高地文明と共通する要素が多い。いくつかの父系制のリネージ集団から成る村落を形成し，勇敢，雄弁，呪術的能力などの資質を有する首長により統率されていた。
