Satta Pass - Satta Pass

A pass between the Yui district and the Okitsu district of Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture. The pass crosses a point called Kukigasaki, where the steep slope of the mountain range of Mt. Sada (244 meters) faces Suruga Bay, and is a difficult spot on the Tokaido road, as well as a scenic spot. The route that passes through here is called Kamimichi, Nakamichi, Shimomichi, etc., and has evolved into a pass road and a coastal road. The road that ran along the shore was moved when a pass road was constructed during the visit of Korean envoys during the Meireki era (1655-1658), but after the coast rose due to the great earthquake of 1854 (Ansei 1), it was transferred to a coastal road. Even now, the Tokaido Main Line, National Route 1, and Tomei Expressway pass through here almost parallel to each other. It is also known as the site of historic battles, including the 1568 (Eiroku 11) battle between Takeda Shingen and Imagawa Ujizane. The pass's name comes from the fact that it is dedicated to Bodhisattva Bodhisattva, who was caught in a fisherman's net. It is an hour's walk from Yui Station. There is a hiking trail with an observation deck and rest areas.

静岡県静岡市清水区(しみずく)由比(ゆい)地区と清水区興津(おきつ)地区との間にある峠。薩埵山（244メートル）の山地が急傾斜で駿河(するが)湾に面する岫崎(くきがさき)とよばれる地点を越える峠で、東海道の難所であるとともに名勝地でもあった。ここを通過するルートは、上道、中道、下道などとよばれ、峠道と磯道(いそみち)との変遷があった。波打ち際を通っていた道は、明暦(めいれき)年間（1655～1658）の朝鮮からの使節来訪の際に峠道が整備されて移動したが、1854年（安政1）の大地震によって海岸が隆起したあとは海岸道に移っている。現在も東海道本線、国道1号、東名高速道路がほぼ並行して通過する。1568年（永禄11）の武田信玄(しんげん)と今川氏真(うじざね)との合戦をはじめとする古戦場としても知られる。峠名は、付近の漁師の網にかかった菩提(ぼだい)薩埵（菩薩）を祀(まつ)ったことによる。由比駅から徒歩1時間。展望台や休憩所を備えたハイキングコースがつくられている。
