〘noun〙 A Buddhist statue placed in a private room outside the main hall of a temple. It also gave rise to a trend among ordinary lay people to place a Buddhist statue in their room and worship it. A Buddhist image held in one's possession. By extension, something that is treasured. A secret wife in a temple. ※Nanbanji Kosho-ki (c. 1638) "Different from the manner of an ordinary monk. He did not even look for an internal Buddha statue. He must have been a monk of the new sect Nanbanji temple."
