Basidiomycetes, order Matsutake, family Balloonaceae. The cap is cone-like bell-shaped, 2-4 cm in diameter, with the edges rolling inwards but splitting when fully opened. Light ochre in colour, later turning purple. Grows above ground in forests. Poisonous fungus. There are many known species in the same genus, including Kurotoyamatake, Shirotoyamatake, Kiiroasetake, and Kabairotoyamatake. The colours vary, but the cap is a cone-like bell shape with a pointed centre and open edges. It is best to avoid eating any of them.

担子菌類マツタケ目フウセンタケ科。傘は円錐状の鐘形，径2～4cm，縁は内側に向って巻いているが開ききると裂ける。薄い黄土色でのちに紫色を帯びる。林中の地上に生える。有毒菌。同属のものにはクロトヤマタケ，シロトヤマタケ，キイロアセタケ，カバイロトヤマタケなど多くの種が知られている。色はさまざまであるが，傘の形は中央がとがり，縁が開いた円錐状の鐘形である。いずれも食用には避けたほうがよい。
