A hermit from the early Song Dynasty of China. His pen name was Ming Yi and he was from Luoyang. His father encouraged him to take the imperial examination, but he refused, saying that he was not yet academically ready. After his father's death, he took his mother and hid in Zhongnan Mountain, where he made a living by teaching. After 30 years of retirement, he was called to the True School in 1002 (5th year of the Xianping era), and thereafter frequently traveled to the capital, where he was favored. He was a disciple of Chen Tuan, and is known as the originator of Song learning, especially for the way he passed on his teacher's Tai Chi diagram to Mu Xiu, who in turn passed it on to Zhou Dunyi.

中国，宋初の隠士。字は明逸，洛陽の人。父に科挙受験をすすめられたが，学業いまだ成らずとして応ぜず，父の死後，母を連れて終南山に隠れ，学問を教えて生計を立てた。隠居30年，1002年(咸平5)に真宗に召され，以後たびたび上京して寵遇をうけた。彼は陳摶（ちんたん）の弟子で，とくに師の〈太極図〉を穆修（ぼくしゆう）に授け，さらに周敦頤（しゆうとんい）に伝えられたといわれ，宋学の淵源をなす人物として知られる。
