A kyoka poet of the early modern period. His birth and death years are unknown. He may have died towards the end of the Enpo era (1673-81). He was a Jodo Shinshu monk living in Takatsu, Osaka, and learned haiku from Matsue Shigeyori of the Sadamon school. He compiled the first anthology of kyoka in the history of the language, Kokin Ikyokushu, followed by Gosen Ikyokushu and Ginyo Ikashu, and many other kyoka, including the geographical works Arima Shiu and Geikayu Arima Meisho Kan. "Greed is never ending, and in the straits of this world, Shakyamuni's coins are so scattered they can even be used to wipe his body" (Gosen Ikyokushu).
