A collection of short stories by Soviet writer I. Babel. Published as a book in 1926, it consists of 32 stories. Written based on his experiences while serving in the 1st Cavalry Division, the collection beautifully depicts the life and actions of the cavalry in the civil war that followed the revolution, exposing the inhuman cruelty and anarchic portrayal of humanity in revolution and war, while praising faith in humanity and revolution.
