Jeong Gam-rok

Japanese: 鄭鑑録 - ていかんろく

A prophetic book that was circulated among the general public from the mid-Joseon Dynasty onwards. It predicts the downfall of the Yi dynasty due to a revolution in which surnames were changed. Its origins are unknown, and there are many different versions, but it takes the form of a dialogue between two men, Yi Zhan, ancestor of the Yi dynasty, and Jeong Gam, ancestor of the Jeong dynasty, and predicts that the Yi dynasty, with its capital in Hanyang (Seoul), will last for several hundred years, and then be succeeded by the Jeong dynasty of Gyeryongsan, and predicts disasters and calamities that will occur during that time. The Joseon government banned the book, but it also represented the desires of the people against oppression, and was not easily eradicated.

朝鮮の李朝中期以降，民間に流布した予言書。易姓革命による李氏王朝の滅亡を説く。成立の由来は不詳で，さまざまな異書が存在するが，李氏の祖先である李湛と鄭氏の祖先鄭鑑という2人の人物の問答の形式をとって，漢陽(ソウル)に都する李朝が数百年続いたあと鶏竜山の鄭氏王朝がこれに代わるとし，その間におこる災難や禍変などを予言している。李朝政府は禁書として取り締まったが，圧政に対する民衆の願望を代弁する性格をも持っており，容易に根絶しえなかった。
