1883‐1953 Vietnamese educator, historian, and politician. His Chinese name is Chen Chongkin. From the 1910s until 1942, he served as a high school teacher in Hanoi, a school inspector in the north, and an elementary school principal, while continuing to write books on Vietnamese history and culture, such as "A Brief History of Vietnam" and "Confucianism." In March 1945, after the Japanese military's March 9th coup d'état destroyed French power, he became Prime Minister of the independent Vietnamese government on April 7 at the request of Emperor Bao Dai. He made efforts to obtain the right to issue paper money, establish a self-defense force, and restore Cochinchina, but was unable to exercise any concrete administrative power under the supervision of the Japanese military, and resigned on August 25 of 1945 due to the August Revolution, disappearing from politics.
