An old town in Yatsushiro County, Kumamoto Prefecture, located almost in the center of the Yatsushiro Plain. The Kagoshima Main Line runs through it. It is a rural area where rice and rush are cultivated. Most of the town area has been reclaimed land since the time of Kato Kiyomasa, and the town name comes from its area of 1,000 cho. In August 2005, it was incorporated into Yatsushiro City along with Kagami Town, Sakamoto Village, Toyo Village, and Izumi Village in Yatsushiro County. 11.18 km2 . 7,044 people (2003). 熊本県,八代(やつしろ)平野のほぼ中央にある八代郡の旧町。鹿児島本線が通じる。米作とイグサ栽培の農村地帯。町域の大半は加藤清正以来の干拓地で,町名は千町の面積に由来。2005年8月八代郡鏡町,坂本村,東陽村,泉村と八代市へ編入。11.18km2。7044人(2003)。
