Nobukki Anayama

Japanese:
Nobukki Anayama
Year of death: June 2, 1582 (June 21, 1582)
Year of birth: Tenbun 10 (1541)
A military commander in the Sengoku period. His childhood name was Katsuchiyo, and he grew up to be Hikorokuro. He served as Saemon-no-dayu, Genba-no-kami, and Mutsu-no-kami. After shaving his head, he took the name Baisetsusai Fuhaku. He was a member of the Takeda clan of Kai. His father was Nobutomo, and his mother was Takeda Shingen's older sister. His wife, Kenshoin, was Shingen's daughter. He was based in Shimoyama, Koma-gun, Kai Province (Minobu Town, Yamanashi Prefecture), and ruled over the Kawachi region (the Fuji River basin, present-day Minamikoma-gun and Nishiyatsushiro-gun). He fought in various places following Shingen and Katsuyori and his son, and also participated in the management of their territories. As his main territory, the Kawachi region, bordered Suruga Province, and he was related by marriage to the Imagawa clan (Imagawa Yoshimoto's wife was the sister of Nobutsugu's mother), he bore a heavy responsibility, especially in policies toward Suruga. When Suruga became the domain of the Takeda clan, in 1575 he was put in charge of the Ihara district as the lord of Ejiri Castle (Shimizu City) and was also involved in diplomacy with the Tokugawa clan. When the Oda clan invaded Kai in 1577, he was one of the first to visit Oda Nobunaga through Tokugawa Ieyasu, and after the Takeda clan was destroyed he was granted control of his main domain, the Kai Kawachi region. In May of the same year he had another audience with Nobunaga in Azuchi together with Ieyasu. He received news of the Honnoji Incident in Sakai, Izumi Province, and was killed in an uprising in Ujitawara, Yamashiro Province, on his way home. He had his own organization of vassals, including magistrates and deputies, and had strong control over the Kawachi region, developing the forests and gold mines and conducting land surveys. Along with the Oyamada clan's Tsuru district, the penetration of power into this region was a major challenge for the Takeda clan, who aimed to unify their domain. Nobutsuna's son, Katsuchiyo, succeeded him, but he died at the age of 16 in the 15th year of the same year, and the Anayama family line came to an end.
