Chanchan (English spelling) Chanchan
This was the capital of the Chimu Kingdom, which flourished in the 14th and 15th centuries along the northern coast of Peru. It remains as a huge urban ruin on the outskirts of present-day Trujillo. It covers an area of approximately 20 km2, with the central area made up of several large blocks surrounded by thick earthen walls. It can be said to be the largest planned city of the ancient Andean civilization. The best-preserved Chudi block is 480m x 450m and is surrounded by a large wall 7m high, and inside you can see palace architecture with elaborate reliefs and openwork carvings.
