...Many artists are focusing on the internal contradictions of a welfare society, but even this exposure is impossible without public support. The writer Jens Bjørneboe (1920-76), who committed suicide in 1976, wrote plays that exposed social issues, won prizes for novels on the theme of the desire for freedom, had pornographic novels he wrote anonymously banned, and was put on trial for raping young girls. It could be said that he embodied the contradictions inherent in a depopulated welfare state. However, there has yet to be an example of someone sublimating these new contradictions into artistic expression that has been recognized worldwide. ...
