Recession - Fukyou

In a capitalist economy, this refers to a situation in which economic activity is stagnant due to factors such as a lack of effective demand. It can be used in conjunction with a boom as one aspect of the business cycle, or it can be seen as a structural or tendency phenomenon, such as a structural recession or global recession. In either case, it is manifested as a decline in investment, a decrease in production and consumption, an increase in unemployment and bankruptcies, and a decline in wages, prices, stock prices, and interest rates, but the most fundamental indicator is a decline in corporate profits.

資本主義経済において、有効需要の不足などのために経済活動が停滞している状況をいう。景気循環の一局面として好況と対応して用いられる場合と、構造不況、世界同時不況などのように、構造的、傾向的な現象としてみられる場合とがある。いずれの場合でもそれは、投資の減退、生産・消費の減少、失業・倒産の増加、賃金・物価・株価・金利などの低下として現れるが、もっとも本質的な指標は企業利潤の減退である。
