Father - Chichi no Jo

〘Noun〙① A role that appeared in the Sarugaku Okina in ancient times. Also the dance. Originally it was independent, but in the mid-Kamakura period it began to appear together with the Enmei Kanja (Tsure), and then in the Muromachi period, Chijo and Kanja were abbreviated. In modern Noh, it remains as "Twelve Months of Travel" and "Chjo Enmei Kanja" in the special performances of the Okina . → Shiki Sanban. ※Kasuga Rinji Saiki "Sarugaku (abbreviated) Okina mask Enkakubou, Sanban Sarugaku Taisuke-ko, Kanja Mino-ko, Chijo Zenei-bou"② One of the Noh masks. 〘名〙① 古く、猿楽の翁に登場した役。また、その舞。本来は独立していたが、鎌倉中期には延命冠者（ツレ）とともに登場するようになり、ついで室町時代には父尉と冠者とが略されるようになった。現在の能では翁(おきな)の特殊演出の「十二月往来」「父尉延命冠者」として残る。→式三番。※春日臨時祭記「猿楽〈略〉翁面延覚房、三番猿楽太輔公、冠者美乃公、父允善永房」② 能面の一つ。①にシテの演者が用いる老翁の面。
