Gouldian finch (English spelling)

Japanese: コキンチョウ(胡錦鳥) - コキンチョウ（英語表記）Gouldian finch

A bird of the family Cephalidae in the order Passeriformes. It is slightly smaller than a sparrow, with a total length of about 14 cm. It is one of the most beautiful birds in the family Cephalidae, with a green back, blue lower back, and purple chest. Its belly is yellow, and its undertail coverts are white. The two central tail feathers are long and pointed. There are three types of forehead and face: black, red, and yellow. They are named the Black Gouldian, the Scarlet Gouldian, and the Yellow Gouldian, respectively, but it is said that these are genetic mutations, and that three types can sometimes be produced from one litter of chicks.

スズメ目カエデチョウ科の鳥。スズメより少し小さく，全長約14cm。カエデチョウ科の中ではもっとも鮮やかな色の美しい鳥の一つ。背が緑で腰が青く，胸は紫色。腹は黄色く，下尾筒は白い。中央2枚の尾羽は長く，先がとがっている。額と顔の色は黒いもの，赤いもの，黄色のものの3型があり，それぞれクロコキンチョウ，アカコキンチョウ，キコキンチョウと名付けられているが，これらは遺伝的な変異で，1腹の雛から3型が生ずることもあるといわれる。
