EPROM - Electronic read only memory

A rewritable read-only memory. Erasable ROM; abbreviation for erasable programmable ROM. The stored data can be read out at any time, and does not disappear even when the power is turned off, but the stored data can be erased by exposing it to ultraviolet light, and new data can be written using a ROM writer. Memory that can be erased electrically, rather than erased by ultraviolet light, is called EEPROM (electrically erasable PROM). Memory that can be electrically rewritten is called EAPROM (electrically alterable PROM). It is used to store the control programs of various electronic devices. (→ ROM)
