Chionodoxa - Chionodoxa

A general term for the genus Chionodoxa in the family Liliaceae (APG classification: Asparagaceae). In horticulture, it is treated as a bulbous plant planted in the fall. In early spring, a flower stalk of about 15 cm emerges from between two or three long, thin leaves, and several to ten bell-shaped flowers bloom. It has six perianths and a short flower tube. It is native to the mountainous areas of the eastern Mediterranean and Asia Minor, and five or six species are known. The following three species are commonly cultivated. The sardensis species, C. sardensis Whittall ex Barr & Sayden, has medium-sized flowers that bloom well and are beautiful bright blue star-shaped flowers. The luciliae species, C. luciliae Boiss., is similar to the previous species, but the center of the flower is pure white, making it stand out. The gigantea species, C. gigantea Whittall, has large flowers. All species are cold-resistant, grow well in relatively shaded areas, and do not need to be replanted for several years.

ユリ科（APG分類：キジカクシ科）チオノドクサ属の総称。園芸上は秋植え球根草として扱う。早春に2、3枚の細長い葉の間から約15センチメートルの花茎を出し、数個から10個の鐘状花を開く。花被片(かひへん)は6枚、花筒部は短い。東地中海と小アジアの山地原産で、5、6種知られる。よく栽培されるのは次の3種である。サルデンシス種C. sardensis Whittall ex Barr & Saydenは中輪で花つきがよく、花は鮮青色の星形で美しい。ルシリエ種（和名ユキゲユリ）C. luciliae Boiss.は前種に似るが、花の中央部が純白色となり、よく目だつ。ギガンティア種C. gigantea Whittallは大輪である。いずれも耐寒性は強く、比較的半陰地でよく育ち、数年は植え替える必要はない。
