The total amount of transactions in Panama is $1.2 billion (1977). The main transactions are offshore businesses, which are economic activities that avoid taxes. Some claim that they are useful for the development of Panama's industry, but in most cases they are used by companies operating in the free zones to increase profits by speculating or reducing costs.
